Neruda’s Suitcase: a Multidimensional Poem for the Stage

Premier, February 16-17, 2017. Inspired by the Sale of Lost Luggage, commissioned and funded by a grant from Michigan Council for the Arts, this collaborative script was further developed with comparative arts students from Interlochen Arts Academy for the 2017 Year of the Pilgrim. Phoenix Theater, Interlochen Center for the Arts.

Contemporary Writer’s Series

The Contemporary Writers Series celebrates its 20th year at Aquinas College with its 2016-2017 season. To date, 78 writers of all literary genres have brought their talents and inspiration to more than 17,000 students and community members. In honor of the anniversary, four popular and acclaimed writers from prior years have been asked to do a repeat performance this season.

Association of Writers and Writing Programs

I have been invited to serve on panels, readings, and caucuses at the AWP conferences in 2008, and 2010-14, including such diverse subjects as “God Loves Flyover States: Writing the Midwest” and the advantages of “Community in the Low Residency MFA.”

In 2013 I had the honor of introducing award-winning Richard Todd (cultural critic and co-author of Good Prose) with Tracy Kidder and Adrian Nicole LeBlanc in a Solstice sponsored conversation and reading.

Michigan Notable Book

2005 Pulling Down the Barn, Memories of a Rural Childhood | An eloquent recollection of a personal journey as she discovers herself an outsider on her family farm located in western Michigan’s Oceana County, in the township of Elbridge. Written as a series of heartfelt interlocking narratives.
2008 House of Fields | Anne-Marie Oomen uses a wealth of vivid language and personal details to bring scenes from her childhood on a family farm to life in House of Fields.
